The name Chukka boot is derived from the Polo term chukka or chukker describing a playing period of seven and a half minute. the word chukka comes from the indian word chakr (चक्र) meaning cycle but can also be interpreted as a “casual stroll”

Chukka boots are ankle-high leather boots with suede or leather uppers, leather or rubber soles, and open lacing with two or three pairs of eyelets.Chukkas are usually made from calfskin or suede but they can also be made from other materials. The style first became popular in the late 1940s through the 1960s as casual wear. In the present shoe industry chukkas persist as a popular menswear shoe, particularly in the United Kingdom. They can be worn with both suits and more casual wear like jeans.

It is believed that the Chukka boot acquired its name because its similar appearance to the boot worn by polo players, the Jodhpur boot. while Chukkas were identified with the sport of polo but the boots made specifically for polo are different enough in their design from chukkas. They were worn by polo players after matches because of their comfort. The traditional chukka boot has two or three eyelets maximum. The Chukka was probably first worn in India by off-duty soldiers. the Duke of Windsor wore Chukka boots in the United States back in 1924.

The Chukka boot was made popular by off duty Uk soldiers in India who brought it back to England. Now Chukka boot . Category is not defined by a specific material. It can be made in leather, synthetic or textile.
