Polyurethane is nowadays the most used material in the footwear world, referring to which often the abbreviation “PU” is used. Polyurethane is a synthetic soling material.it’s a very light material which guarantees high levels of comfort. It has good resistance to chemicals and hydrocarbon, but no resistance to strong acids. The softness of the material gives the sole a good ground adhesion, so that its slip resistance is comparable to that of TPU and rubber.  It is flexible and lightweight. Resistant to  heat, oil, low concentration acids/alkalis and solvents.High density light weight, slip resistance, can withstand temp of 120 deg C for 1 minute.Highly flexible and low abrasion for extra life.

It’s necessary to distinguish between PU soles (single-density) and PU/PU (double-density)

SINGLE-DENSITY PU: it’s a very light material which guarantees high levels of comfort. It has good resistance to chemicals and hydrocarbon, but no resistance to strong acids. The softness of the material gives the sole a good ground adhesion, so that its slip resistance is comparable to that of TPU and rubber.

Double -density PU: the sole consists of two layers of PU with different densities. It has good resistance to chemicals and hydrocarbon, but no resistance to strong acids. The soft PU midsole guarantees good shock absorption and comfort.

Though Nitrile Rubber Soles have very good Anti slip properties but  PU outsoles have also reached to the standard requirement of slip resistance, which means it can more likely to prevent people from falling while walking on a wet and slippery road condition.
